A Regenerative Livestock Strategy for Europe
Published 7th July 2026The EU's livestock sector is failing on multiple fronts: climate and health impacts, dependence on imported feed and subsidies, vulnerability to disease and geopolitical shocks, and unstable farmer incomes. EARA argues the root cause is a system that disconnects animals from the land, relying on external inputs to make production viable where nature wouldn't support it. This paper calls on the next EU Livestock Strategy to back a transition toward decentralized, pasture-based regenerative systems, where animals are integrated back onto the land, delivering higher-value products, better animal welfare, greater resilience, and ecosystem services, without dependence on public subsidies.
Regenerating Systemic Risk: Valencia Case Study
Published 8th May 2026This case study examines how systemic risk arises from degraded landscapes with reduced hydrological functions, manifesting as amplified droughts, desertification, and floods. Using the October 2024 Valencia flood catastrophe as its context, the report analyses the potential contribution of regenerating forms of agriculture to flood mitigation across 316,000 hectares of agricultural land, an exercise rarely undertaken at this scale.
