Farmer Members

Unity in diversity, rooted in soil
Who are EARA’s Farmer Members?

We define a farmer as a land steward who has significant agency in the decision-making of managing land use for production in our agrifood ecosystems. We come from every corner of Europe, from arid olive groves in Spain to dairy farms in Ireland, Market Gardens in France to large-scale arable farms in Switzerland

Each of us comes from our own agroecological and economic context, our soils, climates, markets and challenges are rarely the same. What unites us is a commitment to regeneration: in practice on our land, and in advocacy for the broader cause we share.

As Farmer Members, we set the strategic direction of EARA, work together across working groups, and take all major decisions within the organisation.

EARA is not something that happens to us,  it is something we build, together, from the ground up.

Is an EARA Farmer Membership right for you?

Farmer Membership is open to individuals who meet all three of the following criteria. Please read them carefully before moving forward with the application.

Land steward with agency

You have significant agency in decision-making over land use for food and/or fibre production.

Active working farm

Your farm is an active, working place whose primary purpose is food and/or fibre production, forming the core of your professional and economic commitment.

On a regeneration path

You are an experienced professional actively farming for regeneration, aligned with EARA’s Vision, Mission and Principles.

How we grow?

Every new Farmer Member joins EARA because someone in our community knows them, believes in their work, and is willing to put their name to it. Two existing Farmer Member take shared responsibility for each new application.

They introduce the candidate to the community, support them through the process, and bring them to the Membership Committee for a final decision together.

This is not a bureaucratic gatekeeping exercise.
It is how trust travels. We are a living network of pioneers, and the people who join us do so because someone who already belongs recognises something of themselves, and of EARA, in them.

The Buddy system

Every pioneer needs a guide

Every new Farmer Member enters EARA with two people already in their corner.

The same two Farmer Members who supported your application become your buddies from day one,  your first points of contact for questions, introductions, and finding your feet in the community.

This accompaniment lasts until the next EARA in-person gathering, where you will meet the wider community, sign the Vision in celebration, and from that moment forward, stand as a full and equal member of this alliance.

We know that joining a new community, even one as welcoming as ours, takes time.

The Buddy System is our way of making sure no one has to navigate that alone.
